Welcome to Write It Out!
Greetings fellow poets, writers, and everyone in between! I like to be punny, so this is "Write It Out!", a poetry (and other stuff) writing blog that is meant to help all who post here have a space to either help keep up a writing practice, post work, ask for feedback or workshop work.
To make this group great, here are some assumptions. These assumptions can change depending on the needs of the group.
Assumptions: We all don't know each other. And that's okay.
This means that not everyone will feel comfortable or free to post every poem they draft, because poetry is personal.
Therefore, there are three ways to engage.
First, every week or two weeks, there will be a blog post simply to check in about the writing process. How are you doing? Did you write something this week? Let us give you support and encouragement!
Second, if you post work, you can state whether or not you want feedback.
Third, if you want feedback or to workshop work, we have guidelines to offer supporting and encourage feedback. Here is a blog entry detailing how to give good feedback for the writing process that is supportive and non-judgemental.
Assumption: Trigger warnings are not only helpful, but necessary to creating a brave space.
Please include trigger warnings with your poetry or work if they include topics that may be sensitive to others. Note there is a label function in blog posts. You can use labels not only to write your name, but to include any trigger warnings.
Assumption: We cannot guarantee a safe space, but we can put our best intentions forward to create brave space.
By following the feedback guidelines, using this like I statements, respecting other confidentialy and intellectual property, and by generally being compassionate and understanding, we together can do our best to minimize harm.
Assumption: There is no required writing "level of experience" and no wrong questions.
As a group we come from a diversity of prespectives and experiences. Like in all art, there is no "right answer" when it comes to poetry and writing. We respect and expect question, comments, and community thatt embraces all questions and all experiences.
Assumption: Everyone's work is there own, and what is said here stays here.
We encourage writing that comes from yourself. If you are inspired by others writing - great. Use quotes and citations when you borrow other's language. Everything you see on this blog is private and can only be used outside of this group if and only if you have the author's explicit permission with specified boundaries.
Assumption: We are doing this to have fun!
We do this not to punish ourselves for not writing. Not for comparing ourselves to other people. Not because we feel we have to. But because writing stuff is fun! Art is fun. Poetry is fun! So, keep having fun!
Thanks for joining us! Happy writing!
